Acalculia in autopsy-proven corticobasal degeneration.

چکیده
Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) is a neurodegenerative condition presenting with an asymmetric extrapyramidal disorder, cortical sensory loss, and apraxia. While the original case descriptions mentioned acalculia,1 few studies have investigated this,2,3 and reports of acalculia in autopsy-proven CBD are very rare. We detail 2 autopsy-defined CBD cases with acalculia to emphasize that CBD compromises cognitive functioning due to disease that includes parietal cortex.

Cognitive and motor assessment in autopsy-proven corticobasal degeneration.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical features of autopsy-proven corticobasal degeneration (CBD). METHODS We evaluated symptoms, signs, and neuropsychological deficits longitudinally in 15 patients with autopsy-proven CBD and related these observations directly to the neuroanatomic distribution of disease. RESULTS At presentation, a specific pattern of cognitive impairment was evident, wher...

BACKGROUND Slowly progressive asymmetric parkinsonism and cortical dysfunction clinically characterize corticobasal syndrome (CBS). Various pathologic findings, including corticobasal degeneration (CBD), progressive supranuclear palsy, and frontotemporal degenerations, underlie CBS. OBJECTIVE To determine if regional cortical and corpus callosum atrophy and subcortical and periventricular whi...

Objective To investigate progressive non-fluent aphasia and histopathologically-proven corticobasal degeneration. Methods We evaluated symptoms, signs, neuropsychological deficits, and radiology data longitudinally, in a patient with autopsy-proven corticobasal degeneration and correlated these observations directly to the neuroanatomic distribution of the disease. Results At presentation, ...
متن کاملFamilial dementia lacking specific pathological features presenting with clinical features of corticobasal degeneration.
A family is described in which one member presented with symptoms and signs suggestive of corticobasal degeneration and a sibling presented with features of a frontal lobe dementia. Their mother developed a presenile dementia and movement disorder. At postmortem examination the member with clinical corticobasal degeneration had non-specific pathological features. Therefore, the clinical feature...
متن کاملCorticobasal degeneration.
Corticobasal degeneration is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that typically presents with asymmetrical parkinsonism and cognitive dysfunction. Recent molecular advances have given some clues to the pathogenesis of the disease. Clinical diagnosis is complicated by both the variability of presentation of true corticobasal degeneration, for example as a dementing illness, and the syndromes...
